Pilot and Adventurer Gavin McClurg introduces his next move – Alaska

“There isn’t a single village or store on the entire route – some 480 miles as the crow flies, from the north end of the Lake Clark National Park across the Kichatna spires, Foraker and Denali and on to Highway 1, which marks the end of the Alaska range and the beginning of the Wrangells.”
A while ago, Gavin put the word out on Facebook he was looking for a partner for his new adventure, the Alaska Traverse, and it seems the lucky chosen candidate has been found. 2015 XAlps competitor, extreme paraglider pilot and wild adventurer, fellow American, Dave “nutball” Turner will be joining Gavin McClurg for his new expedition later on this year.
It is estimated the trip will take at least 4-6 weeks to complete, and given both pilots can only carry a maximum of 5 days of food, putting food caches in advance along the way is a welcome option as well as checking out alternative options and routes before committing.
Gavin goes exploring by light aircraft with brother-in-law Kenny to check it all out and along the way becomes increasingly aware of not only the hostile glacial terrain but other difficulties that need to be overcome before the adventure can begin: notably ,bears and mosquitos to name only two.
This footage was filmed during that excursion.
