18th July – It is over 12 days since the start gun fired in Salzburg, Austria in one of the world’s most demanding adventure races.

For this seventh edition of the Red Bull XAlps, the 5th July saw 32 athletes from around the world starting on their epic journey to cover the 1038km of mountain and valleys, flying, hiking and running.

19 athletes made the magical finish, landing on the Monaco float in the Mediterranean Sea ; 10 athletes withdrew or were eliminated and just three were left in the race when it ended.

Christian Maurer (SUI) won the race for the fourth time in 8d 4h 37mins, 2nd was Sebastian Huber (GER) in 8d 23h 43mins, and Paul Guschlbauer was third in a time of 9d 5h 59mins.

Hannes Arch, the mastermind behind the race says : « Despite the fast times this year, the conditions were rough for the athletes. It shows just how professional they are, demonstrating true courage, tenacity and skill ».

The last hero home was Michael Witschi (SUI) who finished shortly before the clock stopped at 12noon, with exactly 11d 23h and 43mins after setting off. An hour before him was Honza Rejmanek (USA), making it a fifth time he has competed but his first in Monaco.
