NIVIUK single-surface Skin – the lightest of Light
NIVIUK Skin, a single surface wing accessible to all pilots
NIVIUK have just released their mini single surface wing with identical performance as normal wing. Its particularity is to be as easy to fly as a school glider.
NIVIUK releases their news of the season: the NIVIUK Skin light wing.
This single surface wing should satisfy the pilots looking for a single surface with easy handling.
An ideal wing for mountain flights
If you love the mountains and enjoy hike and fly, the NIVIUK Skin is the glider for you. It is lightweight and compact (1.5kg for the 16m2 and 2.6kg for the 20m2). The glider inflates easily even in nil wind conditions. The launch handling is short and responsive, making it ideal for small take-off areas in the mountains.
NIVIUK present this wing as being “bold, yet stable…with gentle input for smooth, precise landings…the pilot can enjoy long flights and a feeling of control and passive safety, even in more demanding conditions”. The Skin also has the ability to climb efficiently in thermic conditions which positions itself as an ideal wing for pilots of all levels.
How is it possible that a lightweight, single surface wing can be so versatile?
The technical explanation lies in the structure of the five closed cells, which serve to reinforce the surface area and evenly distribute the airflow to the underside of the wing. These cells enable precise yet progressive handling, offering a wide range of speeds and incredible performance. The glider’s internal structure is a combination, incorporating the Nitinol batons already used on NIVIUK’s Icepeak 8.
An ultra-light version
And if the Skin wasn’t light enough, NIVIUK has also made an even lighter version, called the Skin “Plume” (meaning “feather”), made using 100% ultra-light materials in order to reduce the weight even more.
The NIVIUK Skin is available in three sizes: 16, 18 and 20), and in four colours: Khaki and Sapphire for the Skin versions, Sunlight and Atlantic for the Plume version.
