About Author Dennis Pagen / the first book written by a pilot for other pilots

He started flying in 1973 and is a respected author and meteorology expert. Dennis has served in many capacities for USHPA, CIVL and the FAI, the world air sports federation.

Le livre est mieux, surtout visuellement. Tous les graphiques ont été mis en œuvre par Steve Ham sous forme d’illustrations colorées beaucoup plus accrocheuses. Et la mise en page plus aérée à deux colonnes avec une police moderne facilite également la lecture.

Néanmoins, il convient de le noter ici : Le livre n’est en aucun cas facile à lire. D’une part, vous devez être disposé et capable de lire et de comprendre l’anglais. Le style de Pagen est relativement accrocheur. Mais la mine d’informations qu’il contient dans chaque chapitre, voire chaque paragraphe, doit également être réfléchie.

La nouvelle édition de « Understanding the Sky » était sur ma table de chevet depuis des semaines. Même moi, en tant que nerd de la météo, je n’ai dévoré et digéré le livre que par petites bouchées. Comme un repas à plusieurs plats dans un restaurant gastronomique où vous voulez goûter à toutes les saveurs.

Comprendre le ciel remonte à une époque où il n’existait pas de modèles météo haute résolution, d’images satellites toutes les cinq minutes, de cartes thermiques KK7 et de diverses applications météo pour smartphones. Pagen a donc été contraint d’observer les conditions météorologiques d’encore plus près et de comprendre les liens subtils qui les sous-tendent. Le livre fournit une énorme richesse d’expérience avec les explications appropriées.
